Environmental Horticultural Science

a

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Horticultural Science prepares students for exciting and diverse careers in the environmental horticulture industry.  Professionals in this industry are responsible for the production, utilization, and maintenance of trees, flowers, shrubs, house plants, and turf grasses that are used to enhance the environment.  Graduates of the program understand how plants grow and how to propagate them as well as which plants are best adapted to a specific environment and how to maintain these plants.

The environmental horticulture industry in California is a multibillion dollar business.  California is the location of some of the largest nurseries, greenhouses, and landscape maintenance companies in the United States and ranks second among states in the number of golf courses.  This means that Cal Poly students have excellent opportunities for summer internships and are exposed to the latest technology.  Students typically have several job opportunities to choose from upon graduation.

The Environmental Horticultural Science Program offers a technical education that prepares students to meet the demands of industry.
